I Never Liked Nancy Drew
I've written a post about the books that inspired me to write about murder. And those that didn't.When I was about nine or ten years old, someone gave me a Nancy Drew book to read, and I hated it so much it put me off crime for YEARS.Looking back, I'm not sure what the problem was. I love a good mystery. There is nothing like a pretend murder to get your blood racing. But Nancy was just so polite. So good.As a not very good child, I guess I found that a little hard to believe.Maybe that's why in Night School, Allie always runs away and breaks the rules. And that's probably why in The Secret Fire, Taylor lies to her parents and uses her college money to get on a train to Paris to meet a boy she barely knows.Maybe after all this time, I'm still trying to write a more exciting Nancy Drew.
